My current research focuses on the influence of annual climate variability and forest management and harvest techniques on tree growth. I am also studying the influence of that management on stand-level resistance and resilience to periodic drought. Field sites for this work are located in Minnesota (Cutfoot Experimental Forest), Wisconsin (Argonne Experimental Forest), New Hampshire (Bartlett Experimental Forest), and Maine (Penobscot Experimental Forest). Application of harvest treatments have been continuous for up to about 60 years in these sites, providing an excellent opportunity to study the long-term effect of treatment at the stand level. We are using tree rings and written historical records in our analyses.
