I am a plant physiological ecologist and my research addresses how environmental change, including long-term warming, seasonal temperature variation, as well as altered nitrogen input and drought, affects leaf-level carbon exchange via photosynthesis and respiration. To do this, I’ve measured plants grown in ongoing global change experiments (B4Warmed in Minnesota and the Arctic LTER in Northern Alaska), as well in intact landscapes. My current research aims to integrate the temperature and light sensitivity of leaf respiration into estimates of net ecosystem exchange at Harvard Forest, in central Massachusetts.
Mary now works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology in Macalester College.
